The V&A has asked students on the MA in Live Art to share work at their event, ‘Art Schooled’ about the power and potential of art school. I will be screening some of my moving image work at 8.30pm on Friday 26th April in the ‘Action Lab’ in the Learning Centre, Seminar Room 5, next to the Photography Centre. The full programme is on the V&A website.
My moving image work features my character, HALA, which means paternal aunt in Turkish. She is a fierce, intelligent and resentful woman, a powerful and enduring archetype in my family's narrative. I wanted to explore her experience in order to understand her and myself better. My moving experiments explore HALA's interactions with the world around her, which are sometimes amusing or absurd.
These are images that I submitted to to the forthcoming Veiled Gaze exhibition at Queen Mary’s.
HALA at the Menier Gallery 2018
Introducing HALA was first screened at the Menier Gallery, London. The short film was the culmination of my Foundation in Art and Design at the excellent adult education college, City Lit.
